What Do Angels Look Like?

Like the little old lady who returned your wallet yesterday.
Like the taxi driver who told you that
your eyes light up the world, when you smile.
Like the small child who showed you
the wonder in simple things.

Like the poor man who offered
to share his lunch with you.
Like the rich man who showed you it
really is all possible, if only you believe.

Like the stranger who just happened to come along,
when you had lost your way.
Like the friend who touched your heart,
when you didn’t think you had one left to touch.

Angels come in all sizes and shapes,
All ages and skin types.
Some with freckles, some with dimples,
some with wrinkles, some without.

They come disguised as friends, enemies,
teachers, students, lovers and fools.
They don’t take life too seriously,
They travel light.
They leave no forwarding address,
They ask for nothing in return.

They wear sneakers with gossamer wings,
They get a deal on dry cleaning.
They are hard to find when your eyes are closed, But
They are everywhere you look when you choose to see.

…guardian angel

“Angel of God my guardian dear,

to whom God’s love commits me here..

Ever this day be at my side,

to light and guide, to rule and guard. Amen”.

Does this prayer rings a bell to your ear? Well, as far as I can remember this was the first prayer I learned. This was the same prayer I taught to my daughter, Antoinette. As a Catholic, we believe in this spirits, so called Angels who existed even before the so-called, Creation..

Wikipedia defines angels a supernatural being found in many religions. Although the nature of angels and the tasks given to them vary from tradition to tradition, in Christianity, Judaism and Islam, they typically act as messengers from God. Other roles in religious traditions include acting as warrior or guard; the concept of a “guardian angel” is popular in modern Western culture. Angels are usually viewed as emanations of a supreme divine being, sent to do the tasks of that being..

M-W defines angel as a spiritual being superior to humans in power and intelligence; an attendant spirit or guardian3: a usually white-robed winged figure of human form in fine art..

Every dictionary and I guess, every person has his or her own definition of what an angel or a guardian angel is..

I believe that guardian angels are sent by God to protect His beloved people.. in my own definition and beliefs, they are spirits who are always with us wherever we may be..I have read different testimonials about Angel encounters.. I have my own experience to share as well.. Encounters with our guardian angel can be as simple as telling them to wake you up at this time..making them an alarm clock? Not really, just making them feel that they’re important to you and you count on them..

My first accountable encounter with my guardian angel was in Quezon, about 15 years ago.. I took a bath in my aunt’s “batalan” (bathroom), which was separated from the main house. It was about 6pm. I was carrying a deeper with my laundry with my right hand  and a the pale with the my left hand, when my ring slipped off my finger. The ring was a graduation gift of my aunt for me. I can’t find any candle in the house, there was electric light. The ring was so important to me. I tried to look for it but I really can’t find it. To my despair, I uttered, “my dear guardian angel help me find the ring.” When I turned around, I found the ring! I don’t think that it was just a coincidence but it was more on help from these heavenly spirits..

Occasionally, my angels wake me up every time I asked them to. It does happen and they never fail..

I have newspaper clippings  of angel encounters but I need to dig into my closet full of papers , which I have collected over the years.

Angels sometimes appear to in a different form, rather than in the form we expected them to.. They don’t always appear in a male form with wings.. Sometimes, they appear in a form that you least expected them to.

What is important is that we acknowledge their presence. That they’re sent by the Most High to guard and to guide us. Simple appreciation of their existence please them. But most of all, doing good really make their day complete.. ?
