How do you measure SUCCESS?

Affirmations No Comments »

A friend told me that he was invited as a guest speaker in a graduation ceremony in the elementary school where he graduated from. He asked my opinion if he would take the opportunity or just let it pass. I told him that the graduating students will learn a lot from his if ever he would take the invitation. He said that he knows what exactly to tell the children but what stopping him from getting into that ceremony are the material achievements that he achieved. He said that most people, (accept it or not) measure each one’s success by the money he has earned and by the position that he’s currently in. He said that he doesn’t have any material possessions to brag yet and so, he rejected the invitation. :)

I thought about the said incident and then I asked myself, am I successful? How does one measures success? Is success really based on money, position and power? I know that you would have different answers to this. I took my Webster dictionary from the shelf and looked for the definition of the word success. According to Webster; Success is the result that was hoped for; satisfactory outcome; the fact of becoming rich, famous, etc.

Well, I guess that determining someone’s success based on money and position is a fact; but it is not the only definition of the said word.

Too bad, that our world evaluates a person’s success based on material achievements. That most of us overlooked that success is not only based on the money you have in bank or the properties you have acquired. One can be the richest and the most powerful person in the world, yet we cannot say that he is successful. He can be the richest, but how about his family life? Is the marriage a successful one? Is he a good father?

My point here is that, we cannot judge a person’s success on material aspect only. I, for example, am not rich but I can say that I am successful. If you are able to accomplish whatever your plan or goal is, then it is a success. :)

Faith

I am experiencing financial difficulties now a days. There are so much debts to pay but the money I have is not enough to pay for all the bills. I really don’t know how or whom I can borrow money from, but I am not losing any hope. I keep my faith and spirit high. I believe that help from God will come somewhere.

While I am taking a rest, I go through the pages of Chicken Soup for the Soul. I stumbled on this article. I hope that this will make you feel secured. God loves us!

A Creed For Those Who Have Suffered

I asked God for strength, that I might achieve..
I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey..
I asked for health, that I might do great things..
I was given infirmity, that I might do better things..
I asked for riches, that I might be happy..
I was given poverty, that I might be wise..
I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men..
I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God..
I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life..
I was given life, that I might enjoy all things..
I got nothing I asked for – but everything I had hoped for. Almost despite myself,
my unspoken prayers were answered.
I am, among men, most richly blessed!

Learn to Laugh

a prayer, Affirmations No Comments »

After 4 days of vacation, I will be reporting to work again tomorrow. I know I need to catch up with my sales. While my colleagues are already around $300 sales as of June 4, mine was only $60! :( Well, I know that I need to work harder and should be more convincing when offering our support in the next few days to catch up. When I checked the email sent my team leader, I felt a little panic. But then, I need to keep my composure. My 4-day rest from work is enough to keep me focus and concentrate with my work again. I pray that God will help me not to get disoriented again. I feel nervous because there are a lot of pressure when I report for work tomorrow. But then, I know that I need to face the challenge and should not be afraid. I know that I have God by my side to help me.

I remember one of our sales trainers told us that we don’t smile while on call. That we’re so serious and robot-like. I guess this little prayer here will somehow change that scenario and hopefully everyone will be able to realize that amidst all life’s challenges, God loves us, that there is no reason for us not to smile! :)

 Learn to Laugh

God grant that I may see the joke of things
The little things that bother now and then
God grant my sense of humor may be strong
To weep a bit and yet to smile again

God grant there be chuckle in each tear
To every trial God grant a funny half
And when I’m to be judged. Perhaps He’ll say,
“Are you the soul who always tried to laugh?”

And then I nod and answer, “Yes, I am.
I tried to slay my troubles with grin.”
Perhaps He’ll smile and say, “That was a task!
So here’s the Gate of Heaven: enter in!”

Smile! God loves you!

Just for Today

Affirmations, Something Good No Comments »

As always, my dear friend O sent a text message, which is very valuable in drawing positive energy in our life. When we wake up in the morning, it is actually our decision if we wanted our day to be good or terrible. If we wake up frowning then you expect your day to be awful. Why not wake up with a smile and thank God for another day and a new hope. Why not decide to be happy even just for today. :)

Just for today decide to be happy
To live with what is yours
If you cannot have what you want, maybe you can like what you have

Just for today decide to be kind
Be cheerful.
Be agreeable.
Be understanding.
Be your best.
Dress your best.
Talk softly.
Look for the bright side of things.
Praise people instead of criticizing them.

Just for today.
Try it.
After all, it’s just for a day.
Who knows, you might like it and do it again tomorrow.

Have a blessed day!

I used to work at Speechpower as an Information Secretary, when I was in college. Everyday, an affirmation is posted in our bulletin to boost our self esteem and to inspire us. I would like to share with these affirmations, which also help improve my being. Thank you for our founder and mentor, Mr. Joe Mordeno.

“There is One supreme intelligence which govern my life and directs me toward my goal.”
