Off to Angola

Ney sent me a text message last week asking me to look for a good box cutter and boxes for some important things he needs to pack.  I got confused when I read the message. I wonder why this guy is up to. It was like a big bang when he broke the news that he is leaving for Angola in West Africa for work before the month of July ends.

He said that he accepted the offer for our future. He’s been offered with a quite good compensation. According to his uncle who’s been working in that country for some years now, it is a fine country and it has nice people. According to my own research, people in Angola are mostly Catholics and their language is Portuguese. The country is 7 hours behind than Manila time.

Ney will work there as heavy equipment operator. His expertise is handling the excavator. They had a trade test last Saturday and he amazed his superiors on how well he operates equipment. I told him that since they are contractors, too and they have ample of  heavy equipment used for different purposes, his experience with their own equipment is his edge.

I felt sad about it but I know that he likes to go there, too. He has many plans and dreams that I wanted him to fulfill. He didn’t want to let this opportunity of working in Angola to pass.  He said that we may be oceans and continents away but we should be faithful to each other.

He will be away for 1 to 2 years. I told him to get a laptop once he get his first pay and learn how to use Skype. Long distance call maybe costly but we can see each other through web cam and talk to each other over the Internet. :)

Ciao! :)
