Visiting Germany

lifestyle, travel No Comments »

When someone speaks about Germany, we usually think of the Nazis and their not so good activities during world war. But then, Germany actually an interesting country and it offers many splendid places that a tourist can go to. I looked around the net this morning and found this awesome castle. Well, being a fan of princes and princesses, the Neuschwanstein Castle really caught my attention.

Neuschwanstein Castle

Neuschwanstein Castle was King Ludwig II’s castle. It is seated on a hill with a spectacular backdrop of Alps. It is one of the most visited tourist spots in Germany.

Another important historical site that Germany has to offer is the Brandenburg Gate. This used to be a city gate and Berlin’s signature attraction. When Berlin Wall fell in 1989, many Germans celebrated the reunification of east and west Germany.

A tourist can also take a visit to Cologne Cathedral. What is so interesting about this cathedral? Aside from its magnificient Gothic architecture, it is said that the cathedral’s most sacred treasure and an important relic that can be found in the western world, is the Shrine of the Three Magi. There is a magnificent gilded sarcophagus thought to hold the remains of the Three Wise Men.

Ciao! :)

Trick or Treat

Festivities, lifestyle No Comments »

We had a day  break in the office today for we had our Halloween celebration. In line with Halloween, there were trick or treat and children were dressed up in different costumes like angels, fairies, superheros, witches, dracula, vampire, ghost and a lot more. I read diffent article on how trick or treat began.

According to Wikipedia:

The practice of dressing up in costumes and begging door to door for treats on holidays goes back to the Middle Ages, and includes Christmas wassailing. Trick-or-treating resembles the late medieval practice of souling, when poor folk would go door to door on Hallowmas (November 1), receiving food in return for prayers for the dead on All Souls Day (November 2). It originated in Ireland and Britain,[3] although similar practices for the souls of the dead were found as far south as Italy.[4]

Yet there is no evidence that souling was ever practiced in North America, and trick-or-treating may have developed in North America independent of any Irish or British antecedent.[6] There is little primary documentation of masking or costuming on Halloween — in Ireland, the UK, or America — before 1900.[7] The earliest known reference to ritual begging on Halloween in English speaking North America occurs in 1911, when a newspaper in Kingston, Ontario, near the border of upstate New York, reported that it was normal for the smaller children to go street guising (see below) on Halloween between 6 and 7 p.m., visiting shops and neighbors to be rewarded with nuts and candies for their rhymes and songs.

The children were so cool in their costumes. Our supervisor got two buckets of assorted chocolates and candies which we gave to the kids. I don’t know if those children know what they are into. What is important is that I know for sure that they enjoy that activities.

Happy Halloween!

Three years and counting

It's my Life, motherhood, Parenthood 4 Comments »

Last October 28, I celebrated my 3rd year of being a mother. As I look back, I think about the many things that happened in the last 3 years. I remembered the day I learned I am pregnant.

I was in Lucena City then, where ney and I will meet. Though I have a feeling already that I am pregnant, but I wasn’t really sure about it. One thing I remember that made me think I am was, frequent urination.  I researched about it and found out that it was one of the “obvious” signs that someone is pregnant.

When I arrived in Lucena that was sometime in March, 2005, I bought a pregnancy kit from a drugstore and headed my way to the hotel. I tested my urine sample and voila! It was positive. I did not feel any sadness or fear when I learned that I have a growing baby in my womb. I even uttered, “Oh well, so I am real woman!”. :)

The first person I phoned in to share that happy moment was my bestfriend, Daisy. She was actually 6 months pregnant then. I was laughing when I spilled out the news. When ney, arrived at the hotel, I showed him the preg test results  and he couldn’t believe it. In fact he bought 3 more pregnancy test kits of different brands. Of course, it only gave the same “positive” results. :)

Since, I will be on a long travel when I go back to Manila, we went to St. Anne hospital there and had a check up. The doctor prescribed a certain medicine (which I don’t remember anymore :) ) which will keep the baby in tack.

I have not told my mother about it until my tummy is already 3 months. But then, mothers are mothers and they have this “motherly instinct”. Hehehe!!! She noticed that I no longer wear tight pants which I normally wear when I go to work. I always vomit at night (maybe because I was in gy shift then, so it’s like “morning” when I vomit before going to work), and I wasn’t able to clean my mess thoroughly for I really felt weak after throwing up. One more thing, she noticed that there were pieces of garlic which hanged in the window near my bed. :) You see, in Philippine mythical creatures, there are tales about “aswang” who will try to get your baby from your tummy and eat it. They do it by sucking their long tongue into the expectant mother’s womb. Stories says that fetus in the womb smells very good for those creatures. And, garlic for them are stinky. My grandmother told me once that every “aswang” is accompanied of a “tiktik”. A ”tiktik” is actually a bird that gives signal to people. She said that when you hear the sound of “tiktik” loud, that means “aswang” is still away and it actually gives you a warning of an upcoming danger. But if you hear tiktik sound quite low, or seems like it came from a distant, that means aswang is just around the corner.

Before I thought, ”tiktik” are  aswang’s “side kick”. But then, it is actually a friend to people. She said that tiktiks are true though she has not seen one in her entire life, though. But she heard its sound many times already.

When I had my first ultrasound, I asked my cousin to accompany me to the doctor. Of course my mother really felt bad about it. I remember she told me once, that she’ll not take care of my baby. Oh well, she loves my baby more than she loves me.. :)

I really cannot explain the feelings I felt when I first saw my baby’s heartbeat as the doctor performed the ultrasound.

Like any other pregnant woman, I had my own difficulties during pregnancy. I experienced frequent contraction. In fact, I was advised by my OB to have a month bed rest for I had a pre-mature labor when my baby was 8 months then.

When I was younger, I was so idealistic about life. I want my first born to be a boy. Oh well, that was before I got pregnant. When I was pregnant, I really don’t care whether my baby is a boy or a girl as long as the the baby is healthy and beautiful. But ney wanted to have a baby girl. We bought baby dresses and things which were mostly colored pink. We didn’t know yet the gender of our baby then.

A day after we bought the baby items, I had my ultrasound and found out that it is indeed a baby girl. Ney was very happy. I am happy, too.

In the early mornings of October 27, 2005, I woke up for I felt like peeing. Before I can jump out of the bed, I pee. So I thought I did. But it was actually my water bag.

Ney and I went to the hospital that morning at around 8AM. I had my labor for 8 hours. At around, 5:55PM I gave birth to a beautiful baby who is a wonderful gift from God.

As the years pass so fast, my princess is now 3 years old. For the last 3 years, I reflected on how i have  been a mother  to my baby. I know that I am not a perfect mother, but I am doing my best to be fine mother to her. I know that motherhood is a tough job. A priceless job yet the most fulfilling of all jobs. Thanks to my mom who’s always been there to guide me. :)

There was a time that I once told myself, if only I could spare her from all pains and difficulties this world might give her, then I would. But then, I would be very selfish if I would do that. I know that she may need to go through a lot of pain and undertakings for her to be strong and to be a wise person as she continues her journey in this life.

For whatever happens, I will always be her mother who will love her and take care of her. Even if she will have her own family in the future, I will always be here for her. :)

Reminiscing High School Days

It's my Life, lifestyle 7 Comments »

My youngest sister Pauline went to visit our high school Alma Mater to check if their yearbook is ready for them to get one. We both graduated from Rizal High School in Pasig City. It is Guinness Book of World Record’s biggest secondary school in terms of population. It was founded in October, 1902.

There are so many improvements and developments after I graduated from the school about 10 years ago. Our batch was Centennial graduates, for we graduated in 1998 and it is the 100 years of Philippine Independence.

My sister took some pictures of the school. Mostly are new rooms and buildings. In fact, the rooms I used to go to are no longer there. It is replaced with new and modern buildings. Yet there are still some spot in the school where I could reminisce my high school days.

This is our oval, our track and field. The building in the back ground is the IR Building. It is oldest building of the school. Up until now, I don’t remember what “IR” means. :)

This is Science Building. Well, this is not around yet when I’m still going there.

This is one of the rooms of Eusebio Building. It is the newest building in school. It was named after our city mayor’s last name, Eusebio.

Who will forget these two mighty acacia tree which we called “Batibot”. There we stayed during recess time and while waiting for our turn in the room we’re going to occupy. These trees stood there for many years already. And they have witnessed so many changes in school. These two have become a part of every Rizalians life.

It is true that high school life is the most exciting and unforgettable stage in one’s life. You bet I too have a lot of unforgettable experiences during high school. :)

Tonet’s Fishbowl

It's my Life, Little Antoinette No Comments »

I believe I have told you about the fish bowl that Essa will give to my little girl. Well, last Monday, Sir Bon, Essa’s husband, brought it and gave it to me. I was excited when I went home that day. Tonet was delighted to see her fishbowl and excited to have a fish. Even if it is late in the afternoon and Tonet is suffering from slight asthma, we hurried down to one of the fish stores near us.

We are going to buy a fighter fish. To our dismay, the salesperson told us that fighter fish is out of stock. He said we could go back some other time. I explained to my daughter that the fish we are looking for is not available yet and we will just go back when it is ready. She understood what happened. When we arrived home, she just helped me clean and arranged her fishbowl.

We got some shells and little corals from my sister’s collection to design the mini aquarium. It is now ready and just waiting for a fish to occupy it. :)

I promise my daughter that I will go back to the fish store on my rest day.

This is Tonet’s fishbowl. We placed it on top of our refrigerator.

Affirmations, Something Good No Comments »

As always, my dear friend O sent a text message, which is very valuable in drawing positive energy in our life. When we wake up in the morning, it is actually our decision if we wanted our day to be good or terrible. If we wake up frowning then you expect your day to be awful. Why not wake up with a smile and thank God for another day and a new hope. Why not decide to be happy even just for today. :)

Just for today decide to be happy
To live with what is yours
If you cannot have what you want, maybe you can like what you have

Just for today decide to be kind
Be cheerful.
Be agreeable.
Be understanding.
Be your best.
Dress your best.
Talk softly.
Look for the bright side of things.
Praise people instead of criticizing them.

Just for today.
Try it.
After all, it’s just for a day.
Who knows, you might like it and do it again tomorrow.

Have a blessed day!

What to see in Quezon province

lifestyle, Philippines' Best, Quezon Province, travel 21 Comments »

My father was born in Atimonan, Quezon but they moved to Plaridel, Quezon during World War II. Plaridel (Siain) was then part of Atimonan. We visit the place during vacation when I was younger. But since I have to work to support my family and my little princess, I just go there to visit my grandmother during special occasions or when I have time and extra money.

Quezon played a big part in my being. Of course, my father was a quezonian. I usually spent my childhood vacation there and I met ney there.

Quezon province has to offer many beautiful places. Like other provinces in the Philippines, this province offers scenic spots which, tourists will definitely enjoy.

Quezon is divided into 4 Districts. It is currently head by Governor Raffy Nantes. Its capital city is Lucena City. Oh I have a lot of happy memories in Lucena. :)

I have selected my favorite spots in Quezon but let me tell you, this province has many sites you can go to. :)

Quezon national Forest Park and Zigzag road.

This is the zigzag road that cuts between the towns of Pagbilao and Atimonan, Quezon. It is also called “Bitukang Manok”. During the old times, provincial buses pass through this road. But due to safety concerns, a new diversion road was developed for buses. Only light vehicles are allowed to pass this. Though, there are still some hard headed bus drivers that pass this road specially on night trips. The trip is shorter is you’ll take this route compared to the use of diversion road. I really miss passing that road. It is kinda scary though, but you’ll really enjoy the view. I always pray when I pass that road. :)

Mermaid in Atimonan

This is the statue of a mermaid in Atimonan. During my visit to Siain, I always look out of the bus’ window and wait till we pass this statue. It is located along Maharlika highway, and you will really see her. Well, mermaid and siren stories really interest me. There were a lot of talks and hearsay about this mermaid. As of now, I really don’t know the real story why a statue of a mermaid has been built there. Though ney has his own version of the story of this mermaid thing. He said that not so many years ago, a fisherman caught a mermaid in the shores of Lamon Bay in Atimonan. A rich doctor from Atimonan, too, bought the mermaid and freed her. After that incident, the doctor became richer and really had a great fortune. Ney said that it really happened and he knows the family of the said doctor.

Tumagay Beach Resort

I am still thinking of what interesting spot our little town, Plaridel has to offer. Then I remember this beach. It is Tumagay beach resort. The water is clear and clean. Just a like ordinary resort. But the people are great here. Very accommodating.

Mount Banahaw

Mount Banahaw

Who will forget Mount Banahaw?  It is a mystic mountain. I have never been there though. But the mountain has a lot of secrets ready to unveil for those people who are “ready” to know it. They said that there is a certain falls in there, that the waters will clean your soul. There are also talks about a certain passage, that if your soul is not clean then you’ll not be able to pass it. I have found a site that talks about this moutain. You can read the full story here. The said moutain is in fact a volcano. But instead of lava and magma, it contains boiling water.  There are also hearsays that the trees at the top of the mountain is kneeling. Many devotees and faith healers visit the place especially on Tuedays and Fridays. I love to go there as well.  Hopefully, I will have my own story to tell with regard to my experience in going up the mountain.

Kamay ni Hesus

Kamay ni Hesus

This is Kamay ni Hesus in Lucban. It is a shrine dedicated to Jesus and it is about 325 steps if I am not mistaken. There is church at the foot of the hill and it is a healing center as well.

Villa Escudero

villa escudera

Villa Escudero can be found in Tiaong Quezon. You may check more information about it here.

Ancestral Houses in Sariaya

ancestral house

If you walk into Rizal Street in Sariaya, you’ll find old houses or ancestral houses. The one above is called the big house owned by Rodriguez-Gala family.

Minasawa Bird Sanctuary in Burdeos – The sanctuary is home to bird species such as the nutmeg imperial pigeon, black-naped oriole, rufous night heron, swifts.

Lighthouse in Macalelon – This century – old lighthouse was used as a watchtower fitted by a canon to protect the municipality from invaders during 1784 – 1854.

There are many more places that will interest you when you visit Quezon province. :)

Celebrating United Nations Day

History No Comments »

I watched Singing Bee last Saturday(or Sunday) and the contestants were half Filipinos and half foreigner.. Then I realized that last October 24, the world celebrated United Nations day. I remember when I was young I used to join United Nations Day contest in school. Wherein, participants have to wear national costumes of a certain country.

United Nations Organizations officially came into existence on October 24, 1945 upon ratification of the Charter by the five permanent members of the Security Council — France, the Republic of China, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom and the United States — and by a majority of the other 46 signatories. The first meetings of the General Assembly, with 51 nations represented, and the Security Council, took place in London in January 1946 (source Wikipedia).

Kofi Annan of Ghana for me is the most popular secretary general of United Nations. Currently, the organizations is being headed by Ban Ki-moon of South Korea.

United Nations’ headquarters is seated in Manhattan, New York City, USA. Currently, it has 192 member states.

There’s a lot to say about United Nations Organization but then what is important is that the countries of the world has an organization to keep peace and order in the world. Aside from that the organization aids different countries for food and health support.  :)

Ciao! :)

An Incident

It's my Life No Comments »

I am sorry for I have not updated my journal for the past 2 days. My love arrived and we spent some family time together. Well, he is back in the province to work and I am back to share my life’s experiences. :)

Life will not be as exciting as it is without the trials that you have to go through. As we go through our everyday life, we learn things that will make us grow as a person. We meet people, who will teach us new things, who will try to test our temper and patience.

As I have mentioned in my previous post about my aunt’s friend who feels superior about herself, when I arrived home last Friday, I greeted her and apologized for the misunderstandings, which happened last Thursday night. She said that whatever we say she is still angry with us. I just laugh at it, ignored what she said and headed to our house.

When I arrived home, I told my mother about it and she said that I did what is right and I just need to be very patient and humble. Though I got really pissed off that day and I really wanted to answer her back, I just laugh at it instead. I did it for I do not want to prolong the disagreement for I know that she is just being eaten up by her pride. I even told about it to ney and he said that there’s actually no reason for her to get angry.

I just don’t understand why she acted that way. I mean, she’s a catechist and she teach good morals to children in school yet she doesn’t seem to live up to what she teach.

As for me, I know that I did my I need to do and if she would still act that way, then it is not my problem anymore. She chose to do that and she will be accountable for what she did, right? :)

A Gift for Mom

lifestyle No Comments »

Christmas is just around the corner and I am in the process of finishing my Christmas list. I am thinking of what present for my mom. I want it to be something special, useful for her, practical and fit my budget. My mom is not getting any younger. In fact she’s growing a lot of silver hair that reflects her life. Her eyes are not as good as they were and I noticed that she needs a new eyeglass. Hmmm, I think I know now what to give her.

I explore the net in search for the right eyeglasses for her and found this site that offers affordable eyeglasses yet fashionable ones. I found something that offers an amazing deal of $8 for an eyeglass. Aside from that, you can choose from a whole lot of designs that is appropriate for your needs and lifestyle. It is very affordable. I am thinking to give a pair of eyeglasses for my two aunts. I am also planning to get one for myself. :)

I checked on their site and found this eyeglass which my mother will definitely like.

Eyeglasses are part of our lives already. Somehow, we want something that follows the fashion trend of today.
