I have always been a cat lover. I named my first cat, Sheng-sheng. Oh how I loved her so much. She was a very loving cat. She was so sweet and playful. She died when I was in grade 2, when some drug addicts bullied her and drained her to death in a canal. I was so hurt and angry that at a young age, I tend to cursed them. Sheng-sheng had a daughter whom we named Shasha. And ShaSha had her own kittens and so the generation of Shengsheng went on and on. There was a time that we had around 30 cats! Most male cats left to find their mates and didn’t come back

When we transferred to a different house, though it’s killing us inside, we need to leave some of our cats. My father brought others to Quezon. At this time, we have two cats at home. One is my sister’s, Chichi. The other is my cat, Chaka.

The Purr-fect Family

Cats family is divided into three sub-families: Cheetahs (Achinonychinae), smaller cats(Felinae), including the puma (Cougars) and large cats (Pantherinae). Present research includes only some members of the sub-family Felinae which contains 13 genera and 28 species of small cats, lynxes, and the couga.

All cats have a supple, muscular body very suited to their predatory lifestyle. They have four claws on each rear foot and five on the front feet that are retractable. The “thumb” claw is higher than the others on the inside of the leg also called the dewclaw. Their tongue is rough and suitable for grooming their coats and their young. Most cats in the sub-family have pupils in their eyes that contract to vertical slits. Most of them ambush their prey, which consists of small mammals, birds, reptiles, insects and fish. Exceptions will be noted under each species.

The ranges of the small cats are diverse with some species living in cold regions where there are long winters and others live in arid desert areas.

The Famous Cats in ToonTown

Felix – One of the first great stars of the animated cartoon and the hero of Pat Sullivan’s cartoon strip series “Felix the Cat”.

Garfield – Striped and bulgy-eyed comic strip cat known for his obnoxious comments, hefty appetite, and lazy lifestyle. Often played nasty tricks on his owner Jon and fellow family pet Odie, the dog.

Pink Panther – Silent, rose-pink-colored, animated feline who made his debut in the 1964 movie, “The Pink Panther”. The panther often matched wits with humans and always managed to escape unharmed but not before leaving turmoil in his wake.

Sylvester – Black and white cartoon cat who often sputtered “Sufferin’ succotash!” when he was thwarted by his main adversary, Tweety Bird. Although he tried millions of tricks, he never got the canary and always wound up being the fall guy.

Well, that’s a lot of fact! But what an interesting thing about cats, and other pets, is that when their masters are on the brink of dangers, they always find ways to save them. That even death they’ll catch for their masters.

I don’t know, I am not even sure how to differentiate love and infatuation. It’s been years since I felt a feeling like this.

My friends told me that I am just infatuated with him. Sooner or later, I will get over this feeling. I am no teenager, in fact I’d had 3 relationships before, And I’m in a 4-year relationship with ney, whom I love (as much as I know).

Then I just woke one day, and found myself falling for or being infatuated with someone else. Maybe because of the frequent misunderstanding that ney and I are having, and we seldom see each other, which made me enjoy his company. Although there are times that he tends to be a snob and so serious about life, I still find him lovable in spite of all the complexities in his life.

I just love looking at him. He makes me feel good everyday. There are moments that I just want to hug him and make him feel how I care for him. But then it is something that I can’t do and I should not do.

I am staring at my little girl at I write this article. Then a thought came to my mind, what if I am not into any relationship? What if I don’t have Antoinette in my life yet? Should my life could have been much easier? And the feeling I have right, now could have been easier to handle. If this is just infatuation then why do I get hurt? Is it because of the suppressed feelings I have inside? Or because, I’m frustrated that whatever I do, he can never be mine.

I and my friend J ate at Fazoli’s last Friday. I was crying as I told her the agony I have. She said that, if only my baby isn’t around yet, then she’ll even push me to go with what I feel.

But things are different from what I wanted to be. And she made me realize that the reason why I am hurting is because I am frustrated. I don’t want to have any reason to regret what I have right now. My baby is a wonderful gift and a blessing from God. I hope that ney and I will be able to patch things up and keep the relationship that we have fought for.

If I will be asked about the feelings I have for him, I would say that I have actually fallen in love with him, a love that I need to keep to myself and should never reveal to him. I thank God for letting me feel this kind of feelings again.

Do I expect love in return? I will not be hypocrite to say I am not. Of course I do. But then, I know that I should learnt o accept the fact that the love I’m longing from him will never come. That I should be happy for this love grows in me.

Going back to reality, I have a baby to care for and relationship to keep.

If one day, I will find myself in his arms, then it is God’s grace and blessings that took me there.

I found my daughter watching Hilary Duff’s A Cinderella Story when I arrived home yesterday from a women’s conference. Sam(Hilary) has been an orphan after her father died and she left to stay with her stepmother and 2 stepsisters who have treated her bad. Of course, many of know the story of a classic fairy tale, Cinderella who had been spent her life serving her stepmom and sisters right at her own house. Then one day, she was given a chance to attend a ball in the palace and there she met the prince and the rest is history.

Cinderella’s story is one of which we call a Nouveau Riche, a French term which means new money. It generally means to emphasize a certain individual who was previously part of a lower socioeconomic rank, and that such wealth has provided the means for the acquisition of goods or luxuries that were previously unobtainable. From being a servant girl, Cinderella found her way to be a princess. In Cinderella Story, Sam found out that all his father’s wealth is actually hers.

Around the world, there are many popular personalities whose lives can ba tagged as nouveau riche. Some of these personalities are Mariah Carey, Halle Berry, Jim Carey, Bill Clinton, Cher, Celine Dion, Eva Peron and Oprah Winfrey.

I personally know someone whose life can be called, nouveau riche. He used to be a cab driver. One day, his service by an Arabian business man. The Arabian left his attaché with money full inside. The good heart taxi driver returned the money to the business man. In return for his good deed, the Arabian asked him to work in his company in Saudi Arabia. When the old Arabian retired, the man decided to return to the Philippines. He was able to earn enough money, to put up his own Contracting company.

Today, he is one of the richest person in the province of Quezon. He owns a multi-million house and several properties. But in spite of his wealth, and being tagged as a silent millionaire, he remained humble and kind, especially to those who are in need.

How did I know about him, well he’s actually the paternal grandfather of my little Antoinette.

Never identify yourself with your actions. You are not what you do. Having done bad things doesn’t mean your bad person, or just someone who has made unwise decision.

Life has rewinds and forwards. It unfolds itself at its own place. So, never miss a chance to live today and make a beautiful story for tomorrow..
