Best friend Daisy and I had our picture taken with John Lloyd and Sarah, while singing, “Oh, I… found a very special love in you..”

Thank you Pinky for the treat. Really loved and enjoyed the movie. :)

A Friendship to Last a Lifetime

It's my Life 5 Comments »

Last Saturday, I had a date with my pretty “barkadas”. It was Pinky’s birthday last August 21, and we asked her to treat us so we could see each other. Daisy and I see each other more often than I see Pinky and Ime.

Pinky is the most poised among us, and I’m the most “baluga”. Hehehe! Daisy always finds time to pamper herself. She goes to salon and has her hair done. Like what she always tell me, even if were chubby moms, we should always look beautiful. Ime, on the other hand has her own kakikayan always. They all wear make up. I asked my best friend Daisy for an eye shadow and applied some. We are all pretty, anyway. :)

This picture was taken during our graduation about 5 years ago. Whew! Daisy is the one on the far left, then Pinky, then I, and Imelda. How I miss the old days.  :)

Whew! We have been wiser and stronger over the years. Yet, still beautiful. :)

 Ime and Anet

 Pinky and Daisy

We celebrated Pinky’s birthday at Robinson’s galleria. We met at around 1:30pm. If in the office, my colleagues tag me as a late person, well among us 4, Pinky is always the one late. Love you, Pinks! ? Imagine this, the 3 of us are already in Robinson, and when I texted Pinky, she said that she just finished shower!

After about 30 minutes of waiting, Pinky came and the 4 of us chat as if we have not seen each other for years. Well, the last time that we had this date was about 2-3 years ago already. We missed each other a lot. We talked about the latest things in our lives. We talked about our love life, work and anything that we can talk about.

We ate our lunch at Iceberg. It is located on the 4th floor of Galleria. By simply looking at its façade, you’ll think that only offer ice cream, sundae and fruit splits. But, they do offer mouth-watering dishes. I had Shrimp Gambas with mushroom. It has a chilly sauce but it’s good. Pinky went for Spaghetti with mushroom and tomatoes. It an Italian style spaghetti so, it a bit sour because of the tomatoes. Ime ate Sizzling sisig and that made her sizzle. Daisy’s tummy was filled with cheesy carbonara. If you’ll ask who ordered the best dish, it’s Daisy. Though she didn’t like the garlic bread that came with it for it’s not as fresh as she expected it.

We enjoyed the meal and thanked Pinky for the treat. We also watched A Very Special Love which starred Sarah Geronimo and John Lloyd Cruz. Oh my! John Lloyd really looks good in the big screen. We felt like we’re high school students! We really enjoyed the movie. It’s a feel good to see movie.

Daisy, Pinky, Ime and I have been good friends since college. We have witnessed each other’s up and down. Though, we don’t see each other now as often like before, we know in our hearts that we will always be there for each other. Our friendship is something that we value and cared for. A friendship that will last a lifetime.

Eraserheads’ Reunion Concert

Filipino Showbiz No Comments »

The reunion concert of Eraserheads is a dream come true for their fans. Though the said concert had undergone a lot of intrigues, it came to reality last Saturday, August 30, 2008 at The Fort’s Global City in Taguig. The original member, Eli Buendia, Marcus Adoro, Buddy Zabala and Raimund Marasigan  were all there.

It could have been a night of fun and laughter when an unexpected incident happened. The band is already halfway through the planned 30 songs for the concert, when he was rushed to Makati Medical Center due to chest pain.

We recall that Eli had a heart attack or acute myocardial infarction in 2007. He underwent 2 angioplasty surgeries from which he recovered.

After giving him a first aide treatment in Makati Med’s critical care area, he was transferred to Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City for further treatments.

Family said that it was caused by extreme exhaustion. Eli came from his mother’s wake before going to concert. His mother died only last Thursday(August 28) due to cardiac arrest. But being a professional performer that he is, he said that the show must go on.

Organizers said that it should have been a 3-hour concert and Eli is yet to sing 15 more songs if the incident didn’t happen. Well, I believe that fans understood why the concert has to be cut short. It is said that everybody who attended the concert stood for a minute and prayed altogether for Eli Buendia’s safety.

I have attended Eheads’ concert when I was in college. I accompanied my long lost friend Malou who is a die-hard fan of Eheads. During that concert, we were like an arm away from Eli.

According to Eli’s wife, he is now stable and just getting enough rest.

I pray that Eli will get well soon. Eraserheads has been considered as the Beatles of the Philippines. There were around 60,000 fans who witnessed that “historical event”.

St. Therese of Lisieux, The Little Flower

All About Faith 22 Comments »

I checked my email this morning and I received, a “chain letter” kind of email about St. Therese. It showed the picture of the young saint, the prayer that you need to utter to obtain the wish you have and ofcourse need to pass it on to 17 more people.

St. Therese of Lisieux  is close to my heart. I have been praying her prayers for petition since I was younger. And believe it or not, I have received God’s grace with St. Therese prayers. I know, that many are not believer of saints. We do not praise saints. We respect and pay tribute to them. They are our role models, in showing great love for God. Their lives are our inspiration to face the battle and challenges of life.

St. Therese of Lisieux is also the little flower. Why? Because, even the littlest thing task, she did it with great love and offered it to God. I’m trying to research for a prayer that I used to cite then, every 11AM. It has a line that goes like, ” St. Therese of the Child Jesus, please pick me a rose from the holy garden and send it to me with love. Please obtain before God this (petition). Tell God that I will love him each day, more and more.” Simple things yet done with great love, this is what this young saint taught us.

“As a Carmelite nun she would never be able to perform great deeds. ” Love proves itself by deeds, so how am I to show my love? Great deeds are forbidden me. The only way I can prove my love is by scattering flowers and these flowers are every little sacrifice, every glance and word, and the doing of the least actions for love.” She took every chance to sacrifice, no matter how small it would seem. She smiled at the sisters she didn’t like. She ate everything she was given without complaining — so that she was often given the worst leftovers. One time she was accused of breaking a vase when she was not at fault. Instead of arguing she sank to her knees and begged forgiveness. These little sacrifices cost her more than bigger ones, for these went unrecognized by others. No one told her how wonderful she was for these little secret humiliations and good deeds.” (To know more about St. Therese, click here. For St. Therese’s prayers, go here).

“Therese’s “little way” of trusting in Jesus to make her holy and relying on small daily sacrifices instead of great deeds appealed to the thousands of Catholics and others who were trying to find holiness in ordinary lives.”

When St. Therese’s relics visited the Philippines, about 7 years ago, I, my godmother and godsister went to Antipolo cathedral to visit it. Some people may question that, but the feeling I felt during that time was unexplainable.

It is true that little things, little sacrifices, a little love can go a long long way. .

St. Therese of Lisieux

Here is the email I have received this morning:

Look at the picture; make a wish, then read the prayer.

In case you are not aware, Saint Theresa is known as the Saint of the Little Ways, meaning she believed in doing the little things in life well and with great love. She is represented by roses. May everyone who receives this message be blessed.

Theresa’s Prayer cannot be deleted. REMEMBER to make a wish before you read the prayer. That’s all you have to do. There is nothing attached. Just share this with people and see what happens on the fourth day. Sorry you have to forward the message, but try not to break this, please. (Well, I didn’t forward the message to only 17 persons. I posted it here on my blog so the whole world would know).

Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive. Read the prayer below.

Saint Theresa’s Prayer

May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities s that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God.

Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.

Priceless Moments

I’m about to do my usual assignments last night. I was able to have a good sleep in the afternoon so I can sleep a little later than usual. I’m supposed to write about Philippines’ outstanding tourist spots.

Guess what? I wasn’t able to do anything! Nonet is pulling me to bed. She wanted us to sleep and played with our blanket! I told her to go to bed, finish her milk and sleep. Told her that mommy will do something but she keeps on playing around and never stop on asking me to go with her to bed.

I know she’s very sleepy but we still managed to play hide and seek with our blanket. We tickled each other and she was laughing and giggling. Somehow, she misses me a lot.

Then I held her in my arms and I asked her to close her eyes and sleep. I hummed some songs and then my mother told me that Nonet is already sleeping.

Well, even if I wasn’t able to do what I’m supposed to do, the time we spent together, her laughter and the happiness we shared is priceless. :)

Miley Cyrus and The Disappearance of Childhood

family, Parenthood 4 Comments »

Earlier this morning, Gege sent me an article through email for me to blog on. He said that I can just post the whole article into my blog. I went through the article and read it very carefully. The article is entitled Miley Cyrus and the Disappearance of Childhood. To be honest, I don’t know even know who Miley Cyrus is. I searched on the Internet about Miley Cyrus and I learned that she’s actually Hannah Montana of Disney channel! What surprised me more is to know that she’s only 15 years old. When I saw her picture in her official website, I thought that she’s already around 18 years old. The way she dresses up, her make up and her sensual photos. Who would have thought that she’s only 15! I remember when I was 15, I didn’t even know how to use lip gloss. Believe me, I was still playing Chinese garter then with my classmates. And so the issue of the disappearing childhood comes in.

In the article, Today’s Wall Street Journal  put the story this way, “The photo showing Miley draped in a sheet, back bared, hair tousled, with a come-hither smile upset countless parents who immediately grasped the photo’s essential vulgarity.”

The irony is that Miley is portraying a character put up by Disney to be a role model of young girls yet we’ll see her that way. We all know, the legacy of Walt Disney is to protect innocent childhood in our lives.

Another character stated in the said article is the late professor of New York University, Neil Postman.
The late Professor of Communications at New York University wrote numerous books that are worthy of reading, but one in particular is important for this story. In The Disappearance of Childhood Postman saw the erosion of morals in the dress of little girls as an indication that our society as a whole is not taking care of our own children. He wrote that our image-based society is drunk on sensuality and the cameras have turned on our children robbing them of childhood.

It is very alarming knowing that these reflections of Postman are true. With all the technologies we have right now, the different fashions styles, and innovations that eat up the childhood of our children. Today’s youth who said to be the future of our world.

Is it already late for us to do something about it? I don’t think so. We still have time to protect our children from the sick society we have now and let them re-build the society of the forgotten past.

As a mother of a 2-year old girl, I will do my best to protect her childhood. I wanted her to have a happy childhood that will make her a good person when she grows up. I wanted her to be a God-fearing person and a good Christian indeed. I remember Luke 18:15-16, ESV says that, “Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God”

The innovations in technology we have at our disposal. They can be used for good, but images of human beings in provocative poses do not help any of us. They always hurt the weakest. Usually children, especially girls, are the ones to suffer. As the morals of women are undermined, then the soul of our nation becomes sick. Unless there is a realization that this is so, with repentance in our hearts, then eventually this sickness leads to death.

As Christians we must, bring our children to Christ. Teach them how to pray. And let us all pray for our children. Let us do our best to guard our little ones from the merchants of ungodliness and unhealthy society.

Postman was right. Jesus invented “childhood” as a protected time of innocence in which little ones must be guarded, trained, and loved, not abused nor led to sin. According to Jesus, the kingdom of God itself is like unto children, therefore to remove childhood, as Jesus taught it, is to remove the motif of the presence of the kingdom of God in our midst. Postman’s prophetic Disappearance of Childhood creates a culture where there is a simultaneous disappearance of the Kingdom of God.

4. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

5. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

7. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

9. For we know in part and we prophesy in part,

10. but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.

11. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.

12. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Zebras in the Philippines

Philippines' Best No Comments »

When talking about zebras, giraffes, elephants and other wild animals, we only thought of finding them in the plains of Africa. But who would have thought, that these animals can also find a home here in the Philippines.

While checking my newspaper clippings last night, I stumbled on a picture of a Zebra with a title, “Zebras in Calauit”. I read the caption underneath it and that picture was taken in a sanctuary located in Palawan. This morning, I checked on the Internet to know more about Calauit Game Reservation and Sanctuary. Well,  Calauit Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Busuanga in the northern Calamianes Islands in Palawan. It is home to exotic and endemic species of animals that roam freely in its verdant hills and plains. Animals that can usually find in the grasslands of Africa.

Calauit is not only home to exotic and indigenous animals but since it is an island, it is also home to different marine animals. Antoinette is fond of animals and when I have enough budget I would definitely bring her there. :)

Effects of Cold Water

Beauty and Health 1 Comment »

For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this “sludge” reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks – You should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.

You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let’s be careful and be aware. The more we know the better chance we could survive.

What’s in a Totem Pole?

History 3 Comments »

If you were asked what’s common with Aztec, Cherokee, Inca and the Navajo cultures, what would you say? Alright, they are all relative of my friend Arvie the Indian ?. Kidding aside, those cultures are indeed Indians and they all have a person that takes the role of a religious leader. A spiritual leader utilizes nature in his religious and healing work is called, a Shaman. The animals from which Shamans seek help are called totem or power animals.

Indians believe that these animals are the messengers of the Great Spirit. They treat animals as human guides in their everyday living. They are like angels in other religion. Some tribes used them to symbolize certain traits. For example, Bears are thought to represent power, while the Eagle represents the Divine Spirit. These and other symbolisms should not be taken literally and should be taken with caution.

According to tradition, Totem animals are the one’s to choose and guide you. It is possible that two or more animals would manifest their presence to guide the individual. Anyone can have a Totem animal. To discover it, one must always be aware of any sign that tells a person that he is chosen. For example, you met a tiger in your dreams, and as you read the morning paper, you see a picture of a tiger in one page, then, while you’re on your way to work, you happen to pass by a store with a display of tiger figurines. These encounters may be telling you that the spirit of the tiger has chosen you.

Here is a list of some animals and what do they symbolize:

Bear – power, healing
Beaver – builder, protector
Buffalo – sacredness, life, abundance
Cat – independence
Coyote – the trickster, devilment, reversal of fortune
Crow – law, shape-shifting, change
Dog – noble, loyal, teaching
Dolphin - kindness and play, energy
Eagle – divine Spirit and connection to creator
Elk – strength and agility, friendship
Fox – cunning, agility, quick-witted
Hawk – messenger, intuition, discernment
Lion – Power of feminine energy
Lizard – conservation, caution, regeneration
Mountain Lion – courage, leadership, and foresight
Owl – deception, clairvoyance, insight(the night eagle)
Rabbit – fear, timidity, nervousness, humility
Raven – introspection, courage, self-knowledge
Snake – shrewdness, rebirth
Spider – creativity, balance, interconnectedness, industry
Tiger – caution, appropriate timing, stealth
Turtle – protection, longetivity, healing
Wolf – eliminating weakness, loyalty, teaching skill
